Guest menu
A read-only menu to hand a guest on the iPad — drinks, prices and descriptions, with your logo and a search. Nothing can be ordered from it.
On this page
The guest menu is a read-only menu you can hand to a guest on the iPad: what the bar pours and what it costs, with the venue's logo, grouped by category, with a search. No sign-in is needed, and nothing can be ordered or changed from it.
Show a guest the menu
- On the PIN pad, tap View Menu, beside Time clock. No sign-in is needed. If you're signed in, sign out first: the floor has no menu button.
- Hand over the iPad. The guest scrolls through the categories, or taps Search the menu and types.
- To see everything again, tap × in the search box (or Clear, under the "No drinks match …" message).
- To close the menu, tap × in the top-right corner. It goes back to the PIN pad, so a guest who closes the menu never lands in the signed-in POS.
What the guest sees
- The menu fills the screen on a dark page: the venue's logo (or its initials in a ring), the venue's name and "Menu", then every category with its drinks.
- Each drink shows its name, its price and, when it has one, its description (up to two lines).
- Categories appear in the menu's order, each with a small dot in its color when it has one. Inside each category, drinks are in the same order as the iPad's tiles.
- Each drink shows its main name — the Name (EN) field — not its Spanish name, whatever the iPad's language. The search finds both names.
- Each price is what the bar would charge for the drink right now: its menu price, or, while one of its happy-hour windows is open, its happy-hour price with a small Happy hour mark before it. The menu checks the clock at the start of every minute, so the price changes on the minute the window opens or closes. See Pricing.
- Options and their extra charges aren't shown.
- While the menu is loading, the page says "The menu is loading…".
What is left off
The menu lists every active category that is switched on for the guest menu, and in it every product that is:
- not a custom drink,
- not switched off with its own guest-menu switch, and
- available — not 86'd.
A category left with nothing to list is left out, and so are archived categories and products. The search only ever finds what the menu lists.
A sold-out drink disappears from the guest menu until it is available again. See Taking orders for marking a product out of stock (86).
In the back office:
| Setting | Default | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Show on guest menu, per category (Menu › Categories) | On | Off hides the whole category from the guest menu. "Hidden categories stay fully available on the staff grid." |
| Show on the guest menu, per product (Menu › Products) | On | Off hides that product from the guest menu. While Custom drink is on, the switch is dimmed and shows off: custom drinks never appear there. |
| Name, description and price, per product (Menu › Products) | — | What each drink shows. |
| Happy hour & overrides (Menu › Pricing) | None | The happy-hour price a drink shows while its window is open. See Pricing. |
| Category color (Menu › Categories) | — | The small dot beside the category's name. |
| Logo (Settings › Receipt) | — | The receipt's logo is the one shown here. |
Search the menu
- Tap Search the menu and type. Only the matching drinks stay, and the logo folds away so the results sit above the keyboard.
- To see the whole menu again, tap × in the search box.
- Every word typed must match the drink's name, its Spanish name, its description or its category, ignoring capitals and accents: "espadin" finds "Espadín", and "gin tonic" finds "Gin & Tonic".
- Codes aren't searched.
- The search works on the menu already on the iPad, so it doesn't need the network.
- When nothing matches, the page says, for example, "No drinks match “negroni”", with a Clear button.
The logo
- The receipt's logo is drawn for white paper, so the iPad turns it into light ink for the dark page: the dark parts show solid, the near-white parts disappear, all in the page's text color.
- A logo the iPad can't read, or no logo, shows the venue's initials in a ring instead.
- The logo is drawn at most 260 points wide and 72 points high.
- The logo shows on the guest menu even when the receipt's Show logo is off — that switch only affects the paper.
- Menu changes reach the guest menu with the iPad's usual menu refresh. A new or replaced logo shows on an iPad after its next sign-in.
